We are seeking an experienced theatre professional to join our faculty as an Assistant Teaching Professor of Speech/Accents. They will also serve as a vocal coach on department productions and participate in all facets of the graduate and undergraduate acting programs.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in voice and speech pedagogy, phonetics, and heightened text, as well as experience with non-western methods of training. They will be passionate about fostering an inclusive vision for voice and speech in theatre training and will be committed to mentoring students from diverse backgrounds.
The Department of Theatre and Dance at UC San Diego is dedicated to providing a rigorous and expansive education in the art of clear speech and transformational vocal work. We seek a faculty member who will contribute to our culturally diverse creative community and help us build a strong and inclusive theatre program.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching a range of courses, including speech, accents, and dialects, as well as basic acting in our undergraduate program. They will also serve as a vocal coach on department productions and participate in all facets of the graduate and undergraduate acting programs.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in voice and speech pedagogy, phonetics, and heightened text, as well as experience with non-western methods of training. They will be passionate about fostering an inclusive vision for voice and speech in theatre training and will be committed to mentoring students from diverse backgrounds.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will possess an MFA or 3-5 years of professional experience and/or relevant training. They will also demonstrate 1 to 3 years of evidence of teaching effectiveness and mentorship in higher education. Examples include but are not limited to: positive teaching/mentoring evaluations, student support letters, peer/professional reviews, applicable awards/honors/nominations. Teaching experience can include, but is not limited to: academic institutions, artist residencies, seminars, creative workshops, and participatory performances.

The successful candidate will be required to submit a curriculum vitae, cover letter, statement of research, statement of teaching, statement of contributions to diversity, and at least two letters of reference. They will also be required to provide contact information for three references.
