Job Summary

The Assistant Principal Inspector (Operations) Part 121/125/135 serves as a full assistant to a Principal Inspector (Operations) Part 121/125/135, performing the full range of certification, surveillance, and inspection duties for assigned air carriers, air operators, air agencies, airmen, and designees. This role has program responsibility to ensure that organizations meet Federal Aviation Regulations with respect to operations programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assure on a continuing basis that assigned organizations are properly and adequately organized, staffed, and equipped.
  • Conduct investigations of public complaints, congressional inquiries, and aircraft incidents and accidents.
  • Coordinate Minimum Equipment List (MEL) approvals with the principal airworthiness inspectors.
  • Evaluate training programs to ensure they meet the requirements of the Federal Aviation Regulations.
  • Approve or disapprove training programs, including flight simulators, training devices, or other such equipment used in these programs.
Requirements
  • US Citizenship is required.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Must submit an SF50 (Notification of Personnel Action).
  • Applicants MUST submit all required certificates.
  • Selectee will be required to report to a FAA Flight Standards duty location.
  • PCS is authorized at a fixed rate of 27,000.
Qualifications
  • Applicants must meet the minimum eligibility requirements for an Aviation Safety Inspector in the 1825 series as outlined in the OPM qualification standards.
  • Not more than two separate incidents involving Federal aviation regulations violations in the last 5 years.
  • Valid State driver's license.
  • Fluency in the English language.
  • No chemical dependencies or drug abuse that could interfere with job performance.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
Medical Requirements
  • Have good distant vision in each eye and be able to read, without strain, printed materials the size of typewritten characters.
  • Have the ability to hear the conversational voice.
  • Not have any physical condition that would cause them to be a hazard to themselves or others that would interfere with their ability to fly as passengers in a variety of aircraft.
Additional Requirements
  • Possess a valid second-class medical certificate in accordance with FAA regulations.
  • Pass recurrent medical examinations as prescribed by the FAA.

High school diploma or equivalent.
