Job Summary

Overview

Tufts Medical Center seeks a skilled Cardiac Sonographer to join our team. As a key member of our diagnostic imaging department, you will be responsible for performing and interpreting cardiac ultrasound procedures, including echocardiograms and Doppler studies. Your expertise will play a critical role in aiding cardiologists in diagnosing and treating patients.

Responsibilities

  1. Perform high-quality cardiac ultrasound examinations, utilizing m-mode, 2-D, 3-D, and Doppler techniques.
  2. Interpret study results and provide preliminary findings to cardiologists.
  3. Assist physicians in obtaining transesophageal, intraoperative, and three-dimensional studies.
  4. Maintain equipment in a clean and orderly condition, adhering to infection control practices.
  5. Stay up-to-date with charging and billing processes, ensuring accurate documentation.
  6. Prepare patients for exams, explaining procedures and obtaining necessary clinical information.
  7. Acquire and export three-dimensional echocardiographic data, performing off-line computer analysis.
  8. Participate in quality control and quality assurance, maintaining documentation and ensuring adherence to guidelines.
  9. Assist in training new sonographers and interns, developing a teaching file system.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in Radiology or related field.
  • Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (ARDMS) or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (CCI) certification.
  • Basic Life Support Certification.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Radiologic Science.
  • Two (2) years of clinical experience.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequent standing, occasional sitting & walking, lifting of 30-35 lbs.
  • Pushing, pulling & moving stretchers and ultrasound machines.
  • Requires manual dexterity using fine hand manipulation to operate transducers, ultrasound equipment & computer keyboard.
  • Hearing and visual sufficient to perform examinations, observe patients, read monitors and documents, hear equipment and hospital alarms.
  • Close contact with patients having contagious diseases.
  • Exposure to patients injected with radioisotopes.
  • Frequent contacts with patients, physicians, patients' families, and other personnel throughout the hospital.

Skills & Abilities

  • In-depth knowledge of anatomy and physiology to evaluate laboratory data, past medical history, and pertinent symptoms.
  • Proficient in small parts, venous, and carotid ultrasounds and procedures requiring ultrasound guidance.
  • Ability to perform exams in Doppler, M-mode, B-scan, and real-time modalities.
  • Ability to concentrate for long periods under various conditions while acquiring diagnostic information.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
  • Ability to work independently, seeking assistance as needed.
  • Displays good judgment, creativity, and professionalism.
  • Responds to change and/or stat in work scheduling in a calm and appropriate manner.
  • Demonstrates cooperation with co-workers and management to ensure an atmosphere conducive to high-quality patient care.
  • Attention to detail for ensuring patient education, safety, comfort, and discussing clinical situations with physicians.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
