Vacancy Information
An eligibility list is being established to fill a vacancy within the Santa Monica College Police Department. This position is full-time, working year-round, with varying days and hours based on assignments. The selected candidate will undergo a one-year probationary period.

Selection Process
Qualified applicants will be invited to participate in the selection process, which includes a Physical Agility Test (pass/fail) and a Qualifications Appraisal Interview (100%). Candidates must succeed in both assessments to be included on the eligibility list.

Background Investigation
All candidates must pass a thorough background investigation prior to appointment, along with a final interview, polygraph, psychological evaluation, and medical examination.

Essential Duties
- Patrol college campus and respond to calls to protect students, faculty, and staff.
- Enforce laws and regulations, with authority to search, interrogate, apprehend, or arrest violators.
- Provide security for large gatherings and campus events.
- Investigate and document irregularities during assigned shifts.
- Render first aid during emergencies and issue parking citations.
- Conduct building searches during emergencies.
- Maintain daily activity logs and write reports for follow-up investigations.
- Participate in ongoing training related to community policing and conflict resolution.

Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent, or a degree from an accredited institution.
- Successful completion of a California POST approved academy.
- Must meet all minimum selection standards of a peace officer as specified by the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Must pass medical and psychological standards for police officers.

Licensure and Certification
- A California POST Basic certificate must be obtained within the first 12 months of service.
- A valid Class "C" California driver's license is required.

Training
- The field training program includes on-the-job training and performance evaluations.

Special Designations
Incumbents may qualify for special designations such as Investigator, Training Officer, Range Master, or Safety and Security Systems Officer, each with specific responsibilities and requirements.
