Responsibilities

As a Sterile Processing Specialist, you will facilitate the activities of the Central Sterile Processing Department, providing sterile and non-sterile supplies, equipment, and service for the care and treatment of patients. You will utilize your knowledge of aseptic techniques and body mechanics to ensure the highest level of quality and safety.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent
  • At least one year of experience in a sterile processing position (desirable but not required)
  • Sterile Processing certification
  • Basic computer skills
  • Medical terminology skills

Additionally, you will need to maintain certification and complete 10-12 hours of continuing education each year (January 1st to December 20th) and provide proof of courses taken that relate to sterile processing.

Working Conditions

This role requires standing and walking for much of the day, with occasional lifting and carrying of supplies and trays weighing up to 25 lbs. You will also be required to push heavy supply carts through hospital corridors. You will work in a clean, well-lit, heated, or ventilated facility with no routine exposure to hazards.
