Job Summary

We are seeking a Per Diem Histotechnician to join our team at the DiaPath Diagnostics Laboratory facility in Jericho, New York. The successful candidate will be responsible for processing specimens with minimal supervision, performing routine procedures, and preparing slides for microscopic evaluation.

Responsibilities
  • Process specimens received in the laboratory with minimal supervision.
  • Perform all routine procedures, including accessioning of specimens, grossing, embedding, cutting, staining, cover slipping, labeling, and distribution.
  • Prepare and maintain working solutions for routine H&E staining on automatic strainers and special staining.
  • Complete routine and special requests for additional levels, recuts, special stains, and immunohistochemistry.
  • Perform necessary maintenance of laboratory instrumentation, including changing instrument reagents and documenting QA.
  • Ensure day-to-day tasks are consistently and accurately completed.
  • Perform QC of specimens.
  • Comply with all Lab Standard Operating Protocols, local, federal, CLIA, CLEP, and CAP regulations.
  • Handle and dispose of chemical waste according to laboratory process.
  • Prepare, clean, and maintain laboratory equipment and instruments.
  • Identify and correct problems that may affect test performance or reporting of test results.
Requirements
  • Experience on the bench doing basic histotechnology tasks, such as fixation, processing, embedding, cutting, staining, cover slipping, and simple special stains.
  • Clinical Laboratory Technician or Histology certification required.
