Position Overview:
This role is designed to provide comprehensive human resources support to approximately 300 personnel within the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, part of the College of Veterinary Medicine. The HR Specialist will oversee essential HR functions, ensuring smooth operations in payroll management, onboarding, and offboarding processes.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage and audit payroll functions to guarantee timely and accurate processing in alignment with institutional policies.
  • Serve as a point of contact for payroll inquiries, communicating critical information across the hospital.
  • Maintain organized records of payroll activities and historical data.
  • Collaborate with Central Payroll to resolve discrepancies and ensure compliance.
  • Conduct training sessions for supervisors on payroll systems and procedures.
  • Facilitate the hiring process, including terminations and salary adjustments within the HRIS.
  • Monitor timekeeping and absence requests to ensure compliance with pay period regulations.
  • Provide exceptional customer service to supervisors and staff, addressing HR-related queries effectively.
  • Assist in employee orientation and ensure all necessary documentation is completed.
  • Support staff with FMLA paperwork and coordinate with central HR regarding employee status during leave events.

Qualifications:
  • Technical knowledge in human resources, typically acquired through relevant education or experience.
  • Understanding of employment laws and HR functions.
  • Experience in payroll processing and front office roles.

Skills and Competencies:
  • Proficient in office practices and technology, including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to sit for extended periods and lift up to 35 lbs.
