Job Summary

Gastro Health is seeking a skilled Histology Technician to join our team. As a Histology Technician, you will be responsible for preparing reagents in the laboratory, complying with all safety regulations, and performing routine histology from accessioning to cover slipping.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Preparation of reagents in the laboratory.
  • Compliance with all safety regulations.
  • Routine handling of biohazards and/or chemically hazardous material.
  • Special projects and other duties as assigned by manager.
  • Ensure all correct clinical data/information is entered into the laboratory information system.
  • Perform routine histology from accessioning to cover slipping.
  • Preparation of material for staining, including cutting paraffin sections.
  • Properly embed processed tissue.
  • Cut and stain re-cut slides, special stains, and esotaic test requested by pathologist.
  • Maintenance, troubleshooting, and running of complex automated equipment.
  • Maintenance of lab reagents and supply inventory needed for daily staining procedures.
  • QC and QA of adequate control material needed for tests within laboratory.

Requirements:

  • Associates or Bachelor of Science in biology or related field.
  • HT or HTL certified by ASCP.
  • Previous experience as a histotech preferred.
  • Ability to establish work priorities and handle several tasks for maximum workstation efficiency.
  • Ability to interact with fellow coworkers and internal and external client dealings require courtesy and tact.
