Key Responsibilities:


The Senior Systems Architect is tasked with the design, execution, and upkeep of systems and technologies utilized by the Tufts Operations Division, collaborating across functions to deliver robust, scalable, and stable applications to our users.

This role entails working alongside other IT professionals within the Tufts Technology Services team and with vendors to ensure the smooth integration of dining, public safety, and building management systems, thereby enhancing business operations and streamlining workflows.

You will be responsible for defining requirements for deliverable packaging, installation methods, and other essential needs to guarantee that applications transition to production smoothly and reliably, utilizing both on-premises and cloud resources.

This position will also involve developing strategies for the evolution of applications, defining and implementing cloud strategies, maintaining the application stack for the Operations division, and exploring emerging technologies to enhance services for our users.

Duties will also include maintaining the operational architecture of applications.

Systems Design and Architecture:
Design and architect systems that align with the organization’s goals and requirements.

Assess emerging technologies and propose innovative solutions to improve operations.

Gather and evaluate requirements, translating them into strategic and technical implementation plans.

System Implementation and Integration:


Lead or engage in the planning and execution of system implementations, including dining systems, physical security systems, IoT devices, building automation, and other technologies.

Ensure seamless integration with existing systems and third-party applications.

Technical Support and Troubleshooting:
Promptly identify and resolve system errors with appropriate prioritization.

Consult with application owners, users, and technical staff to address issues in program usage, data storage, integrations, and system performance.

Manage and implement upgrades and system maintenance.

Respond to inquiries from various departments and collaborate with external teams.

Work with cross-functional teams to diagnose and troubleshoot system-related issues.

Address system alerts and problem reports through analysis and debugging.

Regularly provide insights on improving processes with a focus on continuous enhancement and performance.

Understand and communicate the organizational mission and goals, influencing others while engaging with senior leaders across TTS to ensure adherence to best practices.


Leadership:
Conduct detailed financial analyses and write business cases to support strategic decision-making. Oversee the budgeting process for your area. Create complex financial models and interpret key financial indicators to inform better business decisions.


Lead project teams for technical implementations, collaborating with stakeholders and technical staff, including vendors as necessary.


Set an example to encourage participation in initiatives aimed at process improvement, enhancing customer service, discovering new problem-solving approaches, and implementing fiscally responsible solutions.

Dive deeply into specific areas of processes and technologies, sharing knowledge with team members and empowering them to do the same.

Share knowledge through teamwork and documentation, supporting and guiding less experienced staff.

Systems Management:
Write scripts and/or basic programs to assist in system management.

Maintain, support, and patch multiple Windows and Linux Operating Systems.

Support various applications operating within the Tufts AD Windows domain or Linux environment.


Develop and execute scripting and programming code to assist with automation tasks as we advance in network operations.

Formulate plans and processes to ensure service or system availability.

Collaborate with peers in the installation, upgrade, and maintenance of systems or services.

Support the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of university information as part of the overall University Information Security Program.

Plan system upgrades.

Contribute to technical projects as part of a cross-functional team.

Translate technical information into viable solutions and manage complex customer engagements.

Data Management and Analytics:
Oversee and ensure the accuracy and integrity of data within systems.

Utilize data analytics and reporting tools to extract actionable insights for informed decision-making.

Security and Compliance:


Implement and uphold security measures to safeguard data and ensure compliance with relevant regulations.

Conduct regular security audits and assessments.

Documentation:
Maintain thorough documentation of system configurations and procedures.

Project Management:
Lead and manage projects related to system upgrades, expansions, and enhancements.

Develop project plans, budgets, and timelines.

Vendor Management:
Collaborate with external vendors to evaluate and procure technologies and solutions.

Manage vendor relationships and provide input for statements of work and contracting documentation as part of procurement processes.

Qualifications:

Basic Requirements:
Knowledge and experience typically acquired through a Bachelor's Degree in Operations Management, Management Information Systems, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.

Minimum of 5 years of experience in systems engineering and architecture.

Strong knowledge of application setup, maintenance, and administration for databases, web, and application servers.

Experience managing Windows AD domain and Linux environments.

Proficiency in information systems, IoT devices, and related technologies.

Experience with PowerShell, Python, or other scripting languages.

Subject Matter Expert in database technologies such as SQL, Oracle, MySQL, etc.

Ability to architect and design technology solutions in a complex environment.

Experience with project management for medium and large projects, including vendor management.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to effectively manage time and independently prioritize workload.

Analytical and problem-solving abilities.

Ability to work under pressure in a busy, fast-paced environment.


Hands-on experience managing enterprise-level systems such as food management systems, physical security technologies, and devices, or facilities and building management systems.

Ability to work with others in a leadership capacity, directing team members or external collaborators.

Must be able to work independently, goal-oriented, and timeline-driven, possessing expert organizational skills and enjoying collaboration with others.

Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in Business Administration, Engineering, Computer Science, Informatics, or a related field.

Knowledge of compliance and security regulations.

Experience administering building automation systems, central energy plants, and facilities systems, including technologies such as Honeywell, Schneider, Johnson Controls, Maximo, AIM.

Experience with food inventory, food management, and POS systems such as FoodPro, Jamix, Transact, Atrium, etc.


Experience administering public safety systems, including case management, security alarms, door access, and security cameras, such as IMC, Bosch, Schneider, Honeywell technology, Genetec, DSX, Lenel, etc.

Strong knowledge of virtualization and containerization technologies such as VMware, Hyper-V, Docker, OpenShift, etc.
