InsideHigherEd is seeking a dedicated and skilled individual to take on the role of a New Ventures and Technology Licensing Associate. This position is crucial for the effective translation of academic research into practical applications that serve the public good.

The Office of Technology Licensing (OTL) plays a pivotal role in transforming scientific and technological breakthroughs into marketable products and services, aligning with the mission of fostering research, education, and community service.

The primary goal of OTL is to deliver exceptional support that enhances innovative research conducted by faculty and students.

The New Ventures and Technology Licensing Associate will report to the Director of the Office of Technology Licensing and collaborate with various team members, faculty, and researchers to cultivate and manage new venture projects stemming from academic research.

This role demands a commitment to uphold high ethical standards and respect for the educational and research missions of the institution in all professional interactions.

Responsibilities

- Provide outstanding support to faculty, researchers, and students regarding technology transfer, intellectual property, and new ventures.

- Conduct thorough evaluations of promising technologies and concepts.

- Create initial documentation for viable new ventures.

- Establish and nurture a network of entrepreneurs, investors, service providers, and advisors to assist faculty in launching new ventures.

- Promote new venture opportunities to potential entrepreneurs, investors, and corporate partners interested in further developing relevant technologies.

- Oversee various administrative tasks related to entrepreneurship and new venture initiatives.

- Build relationships with faculty, research staff, and students, as well as with other university offices, centers, and institutes.

- Negotiate and draft options, licensing agreements, research contracts, and similar documents; assist faculty in negotiating founder and equity agreements.

- Manage a portfolio of technologies and licensing opportunities.

- Lead special projects and initiatives as required.

Qualifications

Essential Qualifications:

- A degree in life sciences, physical sciences, or engineering.

- A minimum of 2 years of experience in a relevant field focused on new ventures.

- Ability to work independently while managing a diverse array of tasks and projects with meticulous attention to detail.

- Strong time management and prioritization skills.

- Capability to develop and maintain a professional network.

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

- A strong work ethic and team-oriented mindset.

- Exceptional attention to detail, follow-through, and commitment to completion.

- Dedication to the institution's values and a strong ethical foundation.

Preferred Qualifications:

- An advanced degree (Ph.D., M.D., or MBA).

- Previous experience in an academic setting or industry.

- Background in computer science, physics, or mechanical/electrical engineering.
