Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Director of Human Resources to join our team at Cook County. The successful candidate will have a strong background in human resources administration and personnel management, with experience in managing large and diverse teams.

The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to articulate clearly and effectively the terms and conditions of employment in Cook County Government. They will also have a deep understanding of federal, state, and county laws, regulations, and ordinances governing employment in the public sector.

This is an exciting opportunity for a seasoned professional to lead our Human Resources Department and contribute to the success of Cook County.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the central administration of matters related to wage and salary administration, job classification, and compensation.
  • Assist the Chief Human Resources Officer as needed in areas related to training and career development; human relations; EEO; employee health screening; leave management; employment processing, and drug testing.
  • Troubleshoot day-to-day issues, problems, and concerns that may arise, requiring direct and immediate intervention by the Director.

Requirements:

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree plus a minimum of three (3) years of professional work experience in a managerial or supervisory capacity.
  • A master's degree in human resources, business, public administration, sociology, political science, or labor relations is preferred.

Estimated Salary: $120,000 - $150,000 per year, depending on qualifications and experience. This position is exempt from the County's career service rules and is at-will, with residency requirement to live in Cook County within six months of hire date.
