Job Summary:

The Product Engineer is responsible for the development and sale of new product platforms and permutations that deliver competitive advantage in the market, meet financial/growth goals, and exceed customers' performance and quality expectations at or below target costs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide technical and commercial leadership for the development and sale of new product platforms and permutations.
  • Support sales by participating in Project Technical Reviews to guide the selection of LV/MV products and establish mechanical details.
  • Support pricing by working with the Estimating Team to update and improve pricing tools used to price LV/MV solutions.
  • Process RFQs and negotiate pricing with LV/MV vendors for switchboard/switchgear solutions.
  • Support marketing by providing marketing and technical documents.
  • Support engineering by reviewing vendor switchboards/switchgear drawings for accuracy and suitability for the application and distribution.
  • Collaborate with mechanical engineering to ensure that PowerSecure's switchboards/switchgear solutions are manufactured to the UL 891/UL 1558 safety standard and UL 891/UL 1558 file.
  • Support procurement by working with Purchasing and Engineering to create drawings/specifications and Long Leadtime Bills of Material for each switchboard/switchgear being processed.
  • Review and approve or disallow substitution requests and change orders.
  • Respond to RFIs from vendors on switchboard/switchgear that PowerSecure purchases.
  • Support product development as required.
Requirements:
  • BS degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
  • 4+ years of combined work experience as a product engineer for another manufacturer, or other manufacturers, of UL 891 and UL 1558 LV and/or MV switchboard/switchgear.
  • Experience between manufacturing, test, and field services primarily focused on supporting LV/MV switchboard/switchgear is desired.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Suite.
  • Proficient with AutoCAD or AutoCAD LT.
  • Proficient with one or more EATON/ABB/Siemens and/or Schneider Electric's LV/MV pricing and configuration tools.
  • Familiarity with the UL safety standards for UL 891 LV switchboards and UL 1558 LV switchgear is desired.
  • Familiarity working with, and/or selecting, Schweitzer and/or Beckwith relays is desired.
  • Familiarity working with, and/or selecting, Intelligent GenSet Control platforms (ex: DIEF, easYgen) is desired.
  • Familiarity working with, and/or selecting, PLCs is desired.
  • Familiarity working with generator sets, transfer switches, backup power systems, and/or utility-connected distributed power generation and microgrid systems is desired.
  • Familiarity working with one or more of ABB's, EATON's, Schneider Electric's, or Siemen's LV/MV and circuit breaker product selectors and pricing tools is desired.
  • Familiarity working with one or more of ABB's, EATON's, Schneider Electric's, and/or Siemens LV/MV circuit breakers.
  • Ability to understand the differences between the various Ground Fault Protection Schemes [Zero Sequence, Residual (Radial), Ground Source Return, and Modified Differential].
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communications skills required to define custom switchboard/switchgear product solutions.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills are required.
  • Ability to act independently and resourcefully to solve problems and ensure high levels of technical accuracy and quality.
  • Ability to be flexible and discern appropriate plans of action when working on multiple tasks.
  • Implements and maintains engineering objectives and initiatives such as cost savings and complexity reductions.
  • Strong Code Interpretation and Application understanding (NEC, NFPA, IBC, etc.).
Work Environment:

Professional office environment with significant sitting and computer usage. Some walking will be required to review products in process on the shop floor.
