Fleet Technician III Job Description

Join the Fairfax County Government team as a Fleet Technician III and play a critical role in maintaining the county's fleet of vehicles and equipment. As a skilled technician, you will be responsible for performing complex repairs and maintenance on a wide range of vehicles and equipment, including diesel, electric, and hybrid engines.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Diagnose and repair complex mechanical issues with vehicles and equipment
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as oil changes and tire rotations
  • Conduct safety inspections and ensure compliance with regulations
  • Develop and implement training programs for fleet technicians
  • Collaborate with vendors and internal customers to ensure efficient and effective support
Requirements:
  • Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) - Class B (VA)
  • Safety State Inspection Certificate (VA) and/or Virginia Emission Inspections
  • Master Technician certification from the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE)
  • 5+ years of experience in problem diagnosis, repair, and maintenance of automotive equipment
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Team leadership skills and experience
  • Experience working with vendors
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. on an average of once daily
  • Ability to stoop, bend, twist, and reach many times daily
  • Ability to use ladders extensively
