Position Title: Child Welfare Assistant
This role is essential within the Oklahoma Department of Human Services.

Annual Compensation:
Level I H16A - $29, Full State Employee Benefits
Level II H16B - $31, Full State Employee Benefits

Travel requirements are significant. A valid driver's license and maintenance of necessary car insurance are mandatory.
Work hours may include on-call duties, extended shifts, and weekends.

Minimum Qualifications:
Child Welfare Assistant I: Requires six months of experience in general office clerical tasks, childcare in a licensed daycare, sales, or public interaction roles.
Alternatively, an equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable, substituting one of the following: (a) six months of technical or vocational training; or (b) completion of 15 semester hours from an accredited college or university.

Child Welfare Assistant II: Requires one year of clerical experience in a governmental or non-profit social services setting.
Alternatively, an equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable, substituting thirty semester hours of college for the required experience.

Child Welfare Assistant III: Requires one year of clerical experience in a governmental or non-profit social services setting, plus two additional years of clerical experience specifically in a child welfare context.
Alternatively, an equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable, substituting thirty semester hours of college for the required experience.

Key Responsibilities:

Engage in a comprehensive range of paraprofessional tasks, executing various Child Welfare case management activities, including providing support to Child Welfare Specialists, clients, families, and other stakeholders.

Coordinate necessary appointments for medical visits, family interactions, court sessions, and other engagements; arrange or provide transportation for children and clients.

This may involve facilitating referrals to additional program areas, service providers, and judicial entities; assisting in problem-solving, and conducting home visits to aid Child Welfare Specialists in evaluating foster care placements as mandated by court or individualized service plans.

Conduct interviews with clients and their families, documenting findings that may influence medical, financial, tribal affiliation, and mental health care and treatment strategies, reporting these to the assigned Child Welfare Specialist.

Perform administrative support functions and related tasks, including general office duties, inputting case documentation, compiling social and economic data, scheduling, and assisting in meetings with clients, parents, and other stakeholders.

Inform clients about available child welfare services and resources; provide specific program details to clients and may refer them to community resources for additional support.

Assist Child Welfare Specialists in managing cases during client meetings, securing additional services such as childcare or medical assistance; coordinate activities with law enforcement, courts, and other entities; provide necessary reports to the courts.

May support advocacy efforts for clients in obtaining services; maintain communication among clients, service providers, families, and others; may assist clients in achieving their individualized service plans.
