Position Summary

The primary objective of this role is to engage in general law enforcement duties aimed at safeguarding lives and property through the application of local laws and regulations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent;
  • No prior experience necessary;
  • Completion of the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy within the first year of employment;
  • Maintain firearms proficiency as per departmental standards;
  • Valid South Carolina driver's license;
  • Ability to obtain CPR certification within six months of employment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular patrols of assigned areas to monitor the safety of residents and businesses;
  • Respond to incidents as dispatched and perform preliminary investigations;
  • Prevent unlawful activities and apprehend individuals posing a threat to public safety;
  • Enforce traffic laws and ensure pedestrian safety;
  • Serve legal documents as required;
  • Secure businesses during nighttime hours;
  • Provide testimony in court when necessary;
  • Maintain communication with victims regarding their cases;
  • Prepare detailed reports of incidents;
  • Administer first aid when required;
  • Accompany individuals in custody to various facilities;
  • Conduct searches and arrests in accordance with legal standards;
  • Foster positive community relations;
  • Assist with special events as needed;
  • Ensure personal equipment is well-maintained;
  • Refer to departmental policies and legal guidelines as necessary.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Understanding of state, local, and federal laws relevant to law enforcement;
  • Familiarity with police procedures and practices;
  • Knowledge of departmental protocols;
  • Awareness of local geography;
  • Basic first aid knowledge;
  • Proficiency in the use and maintenance of firearms;
  • Ability to operate law enforcement equipment;
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written;
  • Capacity to work collaboratively with colleagues and the public;
  • Ability to follow directives and work independently.
