Position Summary:
A Custodian within the Greenville County Schools is a vital team member responsible for the upkeep and cleanliness of school facilities and surrounding areas.

This role encompasses a variety of cleaning tasks, the application of cleaning agents, and the operation of specialized equipment. Additionally, minor repairs and maintenance of tools and facilities are part of the job responsibilities. The quality of work is assessed through regular inspections and evaluations of the cleanliness and orderliness of designated areas.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform cleaning duties for floors, windows, fixtures, stairways, restrooms, and doors using appropriate tools and equipment.
  • Utilize various machines including buffers, vacuum cleaners, carpet extractors, and lawn maintenance equipment.
  • Assist in moving items such as waste containers, furniture, equipment, books, and supplies.
  • Conduct routine maintenance tasks, including the replacement of light bulbs, fuses, and other minor repairs.
  • Operate and maintain mechanical and HVAC systems by adjusting controls as necessary.
  • Ensure a sufficient supply inventory for the assigned work area.
  • Engage in general manual labor as required for school operations.
  • Maintain the exterior of school properties by clearing debris, trimming vegetation, and mowing lawns.
  • Secure and manage access to the building(s) and handle flag protocols.
  • Be prepared to assist during community events held at the school facilities.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Employment Terms:
The Head Custodian or Plant Engineer will determine specific working hours and days. This position is compensated hourly according to the Support Hourly Rate Schedule on Grade F.
