Job Title: Bus Operator

At GRTC Transit System, we are seeking a highly skilled and safety-conscious Bus Operator to join our team. As a Bus Operator, you will be responsible for operating transit service vehicles, ensuring the safety of our customers and equipment, and providing excellent customer service.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Operate a transit vehicle to pick up, transport, and discharge passengers while adhering to route schedules.
  • Maintain a pleasant and courteous demeanor.
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of transit vehicles to ensure proper operations.
  • Provide information on bus services to passengers, including bus schedules, routes, and fare information.
  • Receives and transmits two-way radio messages involving accidents, incidents, emergencies, and unauthorized/illegal activities.
  • Adhere to safety rules, regulations, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) to ensure the well-being of GRTC customers and employees.
Requirements:
  • High school education or equivalent GED.
  • A current Virginia Driver's License with a positive point balance or better.
  • Ability to successfully complete operator training program, including training of bus routes, schedules, and vehicle emergency procedures.
  • Ability to comprehend and operate a bus on all streets in the Richmond area.
  • Ability to use prudent judgment and common sense in making quick, safe decisions with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to effectively communicate, both oral and written, while interacting with customers and GRTC staff in a courteous, professional manner.
Working Conditions:

The physical demands of this job include sitting for long periods, 20/20 vision or corrected, infrequent lifting and twisting. The work environment is hot, cold, and all changes in weather and conditions.
