Position Overview
The Sanitation Operations Leader is responsible for overseeing the effectiveness of the cleaning and sanitation initiatives to ensure a safe manufacturing environment for our products. This position will coordinate team efforts and guarantee that personnel are equipped with the necessary tools, equipment, and materials to execute cleaning, sanitization, and pest control tasks efficiently. The leader will also manage sanitation standard operating procedures (SSOPs) to uphold product safety and quality while adhering to health, safety, and environmental regulations relevant to this role.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the overall direction, coordination, and assessment of the sanitation program.
- Ensure all equipment and surfaces are cleaned according to SSOPs, following the cleaning record schedule, and utilizing approved cleaning agents.
- Train employees at all levels on pre-operational inspections of equipment.
- Direct sanitation staff activities and set priorities for cleaning tasks in alignment with operational efficiency.
- Ensure safe handling and usage of chemicals, including obtaining Safety Data Sheets.
- Review and develop action plans for any non-conformances related to cleaning activities.
- Identify challenges and concerns, communicating and implementing corrective actions as necessary.
- Prepare and maintain documentation for successful SQF implementation related to sanitation activities, including HACCP, SSOPs, and GMPs.
- Deploy sanitation department resources efficiently to achieve top-tier performance in sanitation audits.
- Develop, implement, and review the Master sanitation schedule to ensure cleanliness and suitability for food preparation and manufacturing.
- Select and manage the use of appropriate cleaning agents and equipment, considering cost-effectiveness.
- Collaborate with third-party service providers to resolve sanitation issues and drive cost savings.
- Calibrate and clean equipment to ensure accurate results.
- Lead facility CIP validations as per the schedule.
- Assist with investigations and program reviews related to incident management.
- Ensure effective safety protocols and record-keeping are maintained through site leadership.
- Adhere to company GMPs, safety protocols, and all quality assurance processes.
- Manage the Allergen and Non-Allergen Sanitation/Allergen Control Program.
- Utilize and enforce the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Supervisory Duties
- Oversee the direction, coordination, management, and evaluation of the sanitation team, if applicable.
- Provide coaching and development opportunities for team members, if applicable.
Minimum Qualifications

- 5+ years of experience in a Sanitation Leadership role, with three years as a HACCP Certified Sanitation Manager in a food processing environment preferred.
- Experience in QA within a high-speed automated Consumer Goods manufacturing setting preferred (e.g., food, beverages, pharmaceuticals, or household goods).
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Food Science, Microbiology, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

Knowledge and Skills
- Basic understanding of expense management and control.
- Familiarity with Clean in Place systems.
- Knowledge of Food Industry Quality Control Systems, FDA Criteria, and Good Manufacturing Practices.
- Understanding of microbiology, microbial elimination systems, and food plant sanitization.
- Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing practices is advantageous.
- Excellent verbal, written, multitasking, and presentation skills.
- Ability to drive momentum and foster organizational change.
- Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
- Proficient in MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
