Role Responsibilities:

At Fieldguide, we believe that the foundation of trust begins with robust infrastructure. The Infrastructure Platform team is tasked with ensuring the stability, resilience, security, and performance of the infrastructure that supports the global Fieldguide cloud platform. With a surge in customer onboarding, we have significant infrastructure and security projects planned for the upcoming year.

We are seeking a talented engineer to help lead our efforts in expanding, securing, and optimizing our platform. In this capacity, you will play a crucial role in collaborating with development teams and business leaders to guarantee exceptional scalability and reliability of our offerings.

Our platform primarily consists of TypeScript-based microservices and serverless functions. We manage our own Kubernetes clusters hosted on Amazon Web Services (AWS) and utilize tools such as Helm, GitHub Actions, and Terraform for our operational needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as a guardian of our platform by designing, implementing, and testing infrastructure to achieve application feature and scalability objectives.
  • Promote a culture of learning within the team through code reviews, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on our infrastructure for other teams looking to build their services on top of it.
  • Collaborate closely with the Application team within our Platform group to address major initiatives such as multi-region deployments and telemetry enhancements.

Candidate Profile:

  • 5+ years of experience in SRE, DevOps, platform, or infrastructure roles.
  • Familiarity with high-availability, globally distributed environments and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles.
  • Experience with cloud service providers, preferably AWS.
  • Knowledge of container runtime architectures, particularly Kubernetes.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language, ideally TypeScript, Python, or Go.
  • Understanding of network and security concepts to meet business compliance requirements.
  • Experience with relational database design and management.
  • 1+ year of experience in a startup environment or a strong interest in working at a startup.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • In-depth knowledge of the Linux container and Kubernetes ecosystems.
  • Experience with distributed system reliability and performance testing, including chaos engineering practices.
  • Extensive experience in designing infrastructure on Amazon Web Services (AWS).
  • Comprehensive understanding of web application observability, ideally with OpenTelemetry.
  • Familiarity with vector storage and search tools, such as pg_vector or OpenSearch.
