Overview

The main objective of this role is to safeguard the organization against espionage, terrorism, and risks of unauthorized access or compromise of sensitive information or materials critical to mission objectives, national defense, or security interests. Key Responsibilities
  • Assists in the execution and management of the information security program for the organization.
  • Engages in the assessment and oversight of contractor security programs.
  • Implements and manages the personnel security program for the organization.
  • Supports security managers in the development of security education initiatives.
Essential Requirements

Qualifications

To qualify, candidates must meet the specialized experience requirements as outlined in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Administrative and Management Positions.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the GS-07 level or equivalent. Examples include applying knowledge of security principles, concepts, and methodologies in executing information, personnel, and industrial security tasks, advising officials, and developing guidance for security policy and procedures.

OR

EDUCATION: Master's degree or equivalent graduate education, or 2 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if relevant.

OR

COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the total meets at least 100%.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Candidates will be evaluated based on their knowledge, skills, abilities, and/or competencies in the following areas:
  1. Understanding of security specialties, concepts, principles, and practices.
  2. Knowledge of security training concepts and procedures to assist in establishing and operating internal security programs.
  3. Ability to develop, analyze, and evaluate security programs to meet mission requirements.
  4. Effective oral and written communication skills.
  5. Ability to establish professional working relationships with colleagues and clients, fostering a cooperative environment.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid or part-time work.

VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Includes paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work through National Service Programs and other organizations.
