Special Education Social Communication Support Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Special Education Social Communication Support Specialist to join our team at Albuquerque Public Schools. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating a supportive and inclusive learning environment for students with special needs, focusing on social communication skills.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) that cater to the unique needs and abilities of students.
- Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and other support staff to ensure a comprehensive and coordinated approach to student support.
- Provide direct instruction and support to students in social communication skills, including verbal and non-verbal communication, social interactions, and emotional regulation.
- Assist students in developing positive relationships with peers and adults, promoting social skills and emotional intelligence.
- Communicate effectively with parents and guardians, keeping them informed of student progress and involving them in the IEP process.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to stay up-to-date on best practices in special education and social communication support.
- Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field.
- New Mexico teaching certificate endorsed in Special Education.
- Experience working with students with special needs, particularly those with social communication challenges.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Ability to adapt to changing circumstances and priorities, with a focus on student needs.
