About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Cytotechnologist to join our team at WVU Medicine. As a Cytotechnologist, you will play a critical role in the diagnosis and treatment of patients by analyzing cytological specimens and providing accurate results.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform and analyze cytological specimens to produce accurate and reproducible results.
  • Assist physicians with FNA specimen adequacy determination during patient procedures.
  • Prepare and reagent solutions correctly and accurately to complete necessary testing/requests.
  • Restock work areas and FNA carts with needed supplies to assist co-workers.
  • Prepare and accession patient specimens, accepting only properly collected and labeled specimens.
  • Perform quality assurance and control procedures to ensure the reliability of reagents and laboratory equipment.
  • Participate in proficiency testing and interpretation/reporting using established procedures.
Requirements
  • Certified by the American Society of Clinical Pathologist (ASCP) or equivalent agency as a Cytotechnologist.
  • Licensed by the state of West Virginia within 6 months of employment.
  • Previous laboratory experience preferred.
Working Environment

The Cytotechnologist will work in a fast-paced laboratory environment, performing procedures and operating instrumentation while wearing protective apparel. The position may be exposed to virus, disease, and infection from patients and specimens.

Skills and Abilities
  • Able to use a computer keyboard, monitor, and mouse.
  • Able to communicate verbally, written, and electronically with healthcare personnel, families, and patients.
  • Able to use numerous types of laboratory equipment.
