Overview:
Barnes & Noble Education, Inc. is in search of a proactive, adaptable, and customer-oriented individual to take on the role of Café Operations Manager. In this position, you will lead and guide team members in the café, overseeing the preparation of beverages and food while enhancing customer loyalty and driving sales. You will be a key resource for your department, while also maintaining a broad understanding of other operational areas to ensure outstanding customer service throughout the establishment.

Responsibilities:
As a Café Operations Manager, you will collaborate with the management team to support all store operations and departments. Your duties will include:

  • Leading daily café activities by training team members to provide excellent customer service.
  • Ensuring product availability, freshness, and quality while promoting sales and special offers.
  • Demonstrating comprehensive knowledge of café and store operations to deliver exceptional customer experiences.
  • Implementing safe food handling and loss prevention practices while maintaining a clean and organized café environment.
  • Managing inventory, stock, and the rotation of perishable goods.
  • Operating equipment, troubleshooting issues, and performing preventive maintenance.
  • Replenishing customer service stations, ordering supplies, and managing waste disposal.
  • Assisting with sales transactions and training team members in transaction processes.
  • Conducting regular team meetings to provide feedback on sales performance and upcoming promotions.
  • Maintaining availability for full-time positions, requiring at least 30 hours of work per week.

Physical Demands:
The role requires:

  • Frequent movement within the café and store.
  • The ability to remain stationary for extended periods.
  • Regular lifting and occasional reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and climbing.

Qualifications:
To be considered for this role, candidates should possess:

  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in a retail service environment as a manager or completion of a relevant training program.
  • A high school diploma or GED.
  • Previous experience in food handling is preferred.
  • A high-energy, friendly demeanor with strong communication skills.
  • Exceptional customer service abilities to connect customers with suitable products.
  • Basic reading, writing, and accounting skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
