Matrix Providers is seeking a Traumatic Brain Injury Specialist (Psychiatrist, Neurologist, or Physiatrist PM&R) to become part of our dedicated team of medical experts tasked with conducting a one-time, non-treatment Veteran Disability Exam.

  • Employment Type: Full Time or Part Time / Independent Contractor

  • Work Schedule: Three days in-person, two days Telehealth (Part-time in-office options available, Telehealth offered for full-time preference).

Qualifications: The Traumatic Brain Injury Specialist (Psychiatrist, Neurologist, or Physiatrist PM&R) must fulfill the following criteria:

  • Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.) with a specialization in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) or Neurology, possessing experience in Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) evaluations.
  • Experience in primary care is essential.
  • Must hold and maintain an active and unrestricted license in the relevant specialty field of M.D. or D.O.
  • Certification: Must have a valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Ability to work autonomously as well as collaboratively within a team.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and adaptability to changing environments.
  • Basic computer proficiency is required.
  • All on-site personnel and contractors must be fully vaccinated in accordance with CDC and state guidelines.
  • Prior experience with VA or compensation examinations is advantageous but not mandatory.

Job Overview:

  • Review relevant medical history documentation and conduct one-time, non-treatment compensation and pension evaluations for veterans.
  • The TBI Specialist will document responses during the examination using web-based forms; all records will be completed electronically. Finalized evaluations will be submitted to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs for disability award decisions.
  • Common assessment reasons include motor vehicle accidents, sports-related injuries, and combat exposure.
  • Diagnostic assessments may involve Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) testing if clinically warranted, along with neuropsychological evaluations; any necessary neuropsychological testing will be referred to a neuropsychologist.
  • Ancillary services (X-rays, labs, EKGs, PFTs, ABIs) may be requested and conducted on-site or nearby.
