Job Title: Bus Driver

South Suburban Parks and Recreation is seeking a reliable and safety-conscious Bus Driver to transport patrons to various programs and events. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of passengers while promoting positive customer relations.

Job Summary:

Under the supervision of the Family Services Manager, this position is responsible for operating a bus to transport patrons to approved designated drop-off and pick-up points for various programs. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to safety, excellent customer service skills, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Transport passengers safely and efficiently to approved designated drop-off and pick-up points.
  • Promote positive customer relations by greeting patrons in a pleasant and courteous manner.
  • Operate the bus on schedule and within designated routes.
  • Regulate heating, cooling, lighting, and ventilating systems for patron comfort.
  • Conduct pre-trip vehicle inspections and report any safety or maintenance issues to management.
  • Maintain a clean bus, both inside and outside, and remove trash after each trip.
  • Exercise good judgment and practice proper safety precautions at all times.
  • Respond to public inquiries in a courteous manner and provide information within the area of assignment.
Requirements:
  • Must be 18 years of age or older with a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience driving in a public or private transportation role is preferred.
  • Commercial Driver License (CDL), Class C, and the ability to pass a post-offer, pre-employment DOT physical and drug test is required.
  • Possession of current certifications in CPR/AED and First Aid is required.
Working Environment:

Regularly requires driving in a variety of weather conditions, ecosystems, and landscapes, regular exposure to adverse conditions such as dust, noise, and extremes in temperature. This will require negotiating streets with heavy vehicle and pedestrian traffic in all types of weather and lighting conditions.

Physical Requirements:

Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to safely operate a motor vehicle; to walk, stand, and sit for prolonged periods of time; to frequently stoop, reach, twist and grasp, lift, carry, push, and/or pull/drag objects weighing up to 20 pounds.
