Position Overview

We are looking for a Senior Systems Engineer specializing in Instrumentation to enhance our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong engineering background coupled with expertise in systems analysis, excelling in a complex and fast-paced environment. This role involves collaboration with various stakeholders, including business analysts, manufacturing teams, scientists, and both software and hardware engineers, to sustain current systems and innovate new diagnostic solutions. Effective communication and teamwork across diverse groups are essential skills for success in this position.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee product development initiatives from a holistic system perspective. Assess and validate the technical viability of new product ideas and significant modifications to existing systems. Articulate and share the vision for the systems under development. Collaborate cross-functionally with scientific and engineering teams to address all relevant aspects of product design and development.
  • Assist in defining system architecture and comprehensively understanding product requirements. Identify available resources and talents, distributing requirements within established processes to ensure comprehensive inclusion in overall systems and final products. Decompose systems into their constituent components, mapping functionalities to ensure operational integrity.
  • Incorporate margin for error in designs, allowing for operational continuity despite potential challenges.
  • Establish product qualification standards by defining measurable performance criteria. Conduct verification and validation to ensure products meet design specifications through rigorous testing.
  • Lead specialized technical teams focused on product development and troubleshooting initiatives.
  • Manage the entire system throughout the product development lifecycle, providing guidance and ensuring alignment with project objectives.
  • Commit to best practices in design, development, documentation, and verification of systems.
  • Support the goals of engineering excellence within the organization.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline with 7-10 years of relevant industry experience, or a Master's degree with 5-7 years of experience.
  • Strong grasp of life sciences and biological principles.
  • Ability to integrate diverse product, scientific, engineering, and business requirements into coherent system architectures.
  • Experience coordinating interdisciplinary interests necessary for developing electro-mechanical instruments to solve technical and business challenges, including expertise in electrical, optical, mechanical, biological, chemical, and software design.
  • Proven ability to work effectively within cross-functional development teams.
  • Skilled in synthesizing requirements from multiple sources, creating structured work plans, and providing status updates.
  • Proficient in analyzing test outcomes, identifying potential failure modes, and implementing corrective actions.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, capable of conveying complex issues to both team members and other organizational units.
  • Adaptability to evolving requirements and system modifications.
  • Familiarity with software design principles and programming or scripting languages.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and analytical tools such as Matlab, JMP, and CAD software as needed.
