Key Responsibilities:

The primary objective of this role is to perform electrical evaluations in one of the specialized electrical testing laboratories. The power testing facility supports Eaton's Power Components Division (PCD) engineering team and plays a crucial role in product development, maintenance, innovation, and certification efforts. This position will involve testing, supporting, and validating intricate test configurations, overseeing laboratory safety to proactively mitigate risks, and ensuring technician and customer safety during setups or evaluations. The lab engineer will also assist in maintaining testing apparatus, drafting, preparing, and processing test documentation, monitoring test request progress, and engaging in the planning of laboratory equipment enhancements or repairs. Additional responsibilities include implementing and sustaining 5S practices and supporting all safety initiatives.

In this role, you will:

  • Conduct a variety of electrical assessments in compliance with UL, CSA, IEC, and NEMA standards for electrical distribution products, as necessary, to fulfill product development and maintenance testing requirements. Familiarize yourself with relevant IEC, UL, and NEMA testing standards.
  • Ensure that safe conditions are established for Electrical Safety and EHS Activities in accordance with applicable legislation and Eaton safety protocols.
  • Assist in laboratory scheduling and align tasks for lab technicians, equipment calibrations, and coordinate with clients to complete all necessary activities.
  • Carry out daily operations and additional special assignments or tasks as directed by management to maintain laboratory functionality.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously to enhance laboratory efficiency and deliver results for critical initiatives.
  • Ensure all testing equipment is calibrated and maintained in optimal condition.
  • Organize and manage incoming and outgoing samples while keeping annual test sample records.

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution.
  • Three (3) years of experience in electrical, mechanical, or industrial engineering.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship now and in the future.
  • Relocation assistance will be provided for candidates residing outside a specified radius.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience utilizing a computer for detailed test documentation and analysis.
  • Familiarity with power systems component operation, including circuit breakers, motors, transformers, panelboards, PLCs, HMIs, and solid-state components.
  • Experience with measurement instruments such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, and megger equipment.

Skills:

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with engineering teams, project members, production facilities, and external suppliers.
  • Working knowledge of testing equipment and its application in various testing environments.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work with cross-functional teams.
  • Effective communication skills to convey ideas and concepts within a team setting.
  • Capable of assembling, verifying, and correlating results, as well as preparing reports and presenting findings.
