Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant to join our Neurosurgery team at Stanford Health Care. As a key member of our team, you will provide high-quality patient care, work collaboratively with our neurosurgery team, and contribute to the development of our clinical programs.

Responsibilities
  • Evaluate and treat patients with acute, chronic complaints, and health maintenance concerns related to neurosurgery.
  • Obtain complete histories and perform pertinent physical exams with assessment of normal and abnormal findings on new and return patients.
  • Perform or request and evaluate diagnostic studies as indicated upon evaluation of the patient.
  • Administer medications according to the formulary protocol or upon patient-specific approval from the supervising physician.
  • Orders and collects specimens for routine laboratory tests, screening procedures, and therapeutic procedures, including blood and blood products.
  • Orders physical therapy, occupational therapy, respiratory therapy, radiology examinations, and nursing services.
  • Perform designated procedures after demonstrated competency, according to written standardized procedures where applicable.
  • Obtain informed consent, as indicated.
  • Initiate arrangements for hospital admissions and discharges and complete appropriate paperwork.
  • Assist the supervising physician in the operating room (OR) and perform surgical procedures in the personal presence of the supervising physician.
  • Recognize and consider age-specific needs of patients.
  • Effectively communicate and interact with patients, families, staff, and members of the community from diverse backgrounds.
  • Recognize situations which require the immediate attention of a physician, and initiate life-saving procedures when necessary.
  • Facilitate the coordination of inpatient and outpatient care and services as needed.
  • Facilitate collaboration between providers and coordination of community resources.
  • Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and clinical policies and procedures.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives.
  • Provide and coordinate patient teaching and counseling.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or above from an accredited college or university.
  • Graduate of a PA program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant, Inc.
  • PA - Physician Assistant State Licensure.
  • BLS - Basic Life Support.
  • DEA - Drug Enforcement Administration.
