Job Title: Electrical Journeyman

We are seeking a skilled Electrical Journeyman to join our team at Walker Engineering.

Job Summary

The Electrical Journeyman will work under the guidance of a Foreman or Superintendent, overseeing and directing the work of a crew of 1 to 5 helpers or apprentices in installations, alterations, additions, and/or repair of electrical systems, conductors, and associated materials and equipment on any project.

Key Responsibilities
  • Interprets drawings and develops an overall crew work plan.
  • Lays out work and preps materials for installation.
  • Performs underground layout and rough-in.
  • Determines wire and conduit sizing.
  • Installs BUSS feeders.
  • Performs switchgear installation and terminations.
  • Troubleshoots and resolves problems in electrical circuits, systems, and equipment.
  • Operates any hand tools and equipment necessary to perform all associated tasks.
  • Understands and instructs assigned helpers in the safe operation of tools, use of equipment, electrical principles, and applicable codes.
Requirements
  • Basic mechanical aptitude, mathematical and English language skills.
  • Must understand basic electrical theory and its application to installations.
  • Must be able to work occasional overtime as required.
  • TDLR Journeyman's License, current Driver's License, and must have own reliable transportation.
  • High School Graduate, GED or equivalent.
  • Must have completed a qualified apprenticeship program and have over 8000 hours of on the job work experience with a valid TDLR license.
Work Environment

This job operates in a client project environment with exposure to employee, subcontractors, and trades.

Physical Demands

The employee is regularly required to talk or hear, frequently required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and reach with hands and arms.

The employee must be able to freely access all points of a construction site in wide-ranging climates and environments, comprehend forms in space, and understand relationships of plane and solid objects.

The employee must be able to manipulate materials and/or equipment up to 50 lbs, move up or mount by using the hands or feet, bend forward or down from the middle of the waist or the middle of the back, stretch out, extend, or put forth a bodily part, and perceive or comprehend by the sense of sight.

The employee must be able to operate or convey in a vehicle, car, or commercial vehicle.
