POSITION SUMMARY

This role involves professional and responsible administrative tasks related to the procurement of a wide range of goods, services, equipment, and construction materials for the City of Fort Lauderdale.

The City offers a comprehensive benefits package, including participation in the Florida Retirement System (FRS), which provides both investment and pension options, requiring a 3% contribution from employees. New hires are automatically enrolled in FRS.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Essential functions are the fundamental duties that an employee must be capable of performing, with or without reasonable accommodation. The following tasks are representative of the responsibilities associated with this classification:
  • Collaborates with departmental staff to assess procurement requirements; provides guidance on optimal purchasing strategies and technical support.
  • Drafts invitations to bid and requests for proposals; finalizes specifications; coordinates legal and insurance prerequisites; manages public solicitation processes.
  • Organizes and leads pre-bid meetings.
  • Compiles bid tabulations; evaluates and analyzes received bids and proposals; discusses outcomes with departmental staff; facilitates evaluation meetings; negotiates and drafts contracts.
  • Prepares Purchasing Commission Agenda Memos; oversees the approval workflow.
  • Processes purchase requisitions; maintains purchase order records.
  • Adds clarity to inquiries regarding requisitions within the procurement processing system.
  • Oversees contract renewals.
  • Performs related duties as necessary.
JOB REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT

  1. Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field.
  2. One (1) to three (3) years of experience in purchasing. Additional qualifying experience may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
Preferences:
  • Certification as a Certified Public Professional Buyer (CPPB) or equivalent purchasing certification.
  • Familiarity with public procurement laws, regulations, practices, and methodologies.
  • Two (2) to three (3) years of experience within a governmental organization.

An eligible veteran participating in an open-competitive examination will receive preference points added to their total passing score as stipulated by Florida Statutes.
