The Audie L. Murphy Memorial Veterans' Hospital is integrated into the South Texas Veterans Health System (STVHS), offering a wide range of primary and specialty health services. These include mental health care, women's health services, prosthetics, kidney care and dialysis, dental services, treatment for spinal cord injuries, bone marrow transplants, and more.

Position Summary:

The Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) will conduct pre-anesthetic assessments, collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to prepare anesthesia, and administer various forms of anesthesia while providing intra- and post-operative care to patients. The role encompasses a variety of responsibilities, including but not limited to:

  • Applying the principles of anesthesia practice to ensure optimal patient care.
  • Delivering comprehensive anesthesiology services for patients undergoing diverse surgical procedures, including cardiac, orthopedic, vascular, thoracic, neurosurgical, plastic, ENT, urologic, and ophthalmologic surgeries.
  • Overseeing clinical care for patients receiving electroconvulsive therapy and various diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
  • Providing primary coverage for patients in surgical intensive care, short stay units, and pain management services.
  • Conducting thorough pre-anesthetic evaluations and formulating appropriate anesthetic plans.
  • Communicating anesthetic risks, benefits, and alternatives effectively to patients.
  • Preparing the patient and surgical environment for anesthesia administration.
  • Administering inhalation, regional, intravenous, local, and topical anesthetics while continuously monitoring patient status.
  • Managing post-anesthetic recovery to enhance patient comfort and minimize pain.
  • Ensuring accurate documentation of anesthetic records and service details.
  • Staying updated with advancements in anesthesia practices and contributing to interdisciplinary improvements in patient care.
  • Utilizing technology and skills to enhance anesthesia techniques and pharmacology.
  • Responding to emergencies with appropriate airway management and resuscitation procedures.
  • Documenting relevant patient data in electronic medical records.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in nursing or a related field.
  • Graduation from an accredited anesthesia program recognized by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA).
  • Certification from the National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists (NBCRNA).
  • Current, unrestricted nursing license in any U.S. state or territory.
  • Current BLS/ACLS certification from the American Heart Association.
  • A minimum of two years of experience as a licensed, board-certified CRNA with recent continuous practice.
  • Proficiency in administering and monitoring various anesthesia types.
  • Strong clinical and technical skills in anesthesia care.
  • Excellent critical thinking and communication abilities.
  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
  • Willingness to work specified shifts and be on call as needed.
  • Eligibility to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
