Job Overview
We are seeking motivated individuals to join our Shipyard Field Engineering team, specifically at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard Reactor Plant Contractors' Office (RPCO). This role is designed for growth and development, offering significant autonomy in your work.
This hands-on position allows you to play a crucial role in coordinating efforts among various stakeholders to ensure the successful maintenance and construction of naval nuclear vessels.
Position Details
The Test Engineer role necessitates 8-10 months of in-house technical qualification, while the Reactor Servicing Engineer role requires approximately 6 months of in-house technical qualification (less with prior applicable experience).
Upon successful completion of the technical training at designated laboratories, candidates will be assigned to Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.
RPCO Field Engineers act as independent representatives at nuclear-capable shipyards and Naval Bases, engaging in a variety of responsibilities including:
- Providing technical support and consultation
- Overseeing installation, testing, diagnosis, troubleshooting, and repair of complex equipment and nuclear systems
Field engineers are proactive in identifying potential issues to mitigate impacts on costs and delivery schedules. They offer technical guidance for problem resolution and ensure compliance with contractual obligations. Our engineers also research, evaluate, and recommend new products and equipment upgrades as necessary.
Career Development
This position is a career development opportunity within NNL. It is highly recommended that candidates complete a 5-year assignment in the field and subsequently return to one of the laboratory locations to advance their careers as leaders within NNL.
Qualifications
Required: A Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related science field with 2 years of relevant experience; or a Master's degree in engineering or a related science field with 1 year of relevant experience; or current or previous qualification as EOOW in the Nuclear Operations Program; or SRE qualified.
Preferred Skills
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Experience in applying innovative solutions to enhance performance
Prior experience in the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program is desirable but not mandatory
Leadership and mentoring capabilities
Willingness to learn and adapt to diverse tasks and responsibilities
Experience with the U.S. Navy Nuclear Fleet and/or nuclear-capable shipyards.
