As a Swim Instructor Trainee, you will play a vital role in the YMCA's aquatics program. Responsibilities and Qualifications:
Minimum age requirement of 16 years. Previous swimming experience is necessary; training will be provided for teaching swim lesson techniques and certification assistance. The Swim Instructor Trainee will shadow certified swim instructors while working towards obtaining the necessary YMCA Swim Instructor Skills Verification within a specified timeframe. The individual will deliver exceptional customer service in a safe, enjoyable, and positive environment that promotes member safety and satisfaction, adhering to YMCA policies and procedures.
2. Key Responsibilities:
Assist and learn from certified swim instructors while gaining knowledge of programming and emergency protocols. Understand and communicate the policies and procedures for the pool and surrounding areas consistently.3. Reporting Structure:
This position reports to the Aquatics Supervisor or Aquatics Director, who in turn reports to the Senior Director of Aquatics or Senior Aquatics Manager. Regular interaction with supervisors, staff, volunteers, and participants is expected.
4. Required Qualifications:
Essential
Minimum age of 16 years. Completion of YMCA Swim Instructor Skills Verification within the designated timeframe. Patience and effective communication skills with individuals of all ages and swimming abilities. Proven ability to swim in both shallow and deep water, as well as tread water (Stage 4 level swimming skill). Commitment to member safety and alignment with the YMCA's mission and values.5. Work Environment:
Must remain in the pool area at all times. Ability to support the weight of a child or adult in the water. Capacity to stay alert in a warm environment with air temperatures of 80 degrees or higher. Ability to identify and address hazardous situations effectively. Communicate verbally, including projecting voice across distances in various noise levels. Perform physical tasks associated with the role, including walking, standing, bending, reaching, and lifting up to 50 pounds in a warm pool setting.6. Additional Information:
