Job Summary

We are seeking highly skilled and dedicated individuals to join our team as Lifeguards in the City of San Diego, CA. As a Lifeguard, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety of beachgoers and swimmers, performing rescues, administering first aid, and enforcing aquatic beach regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Guard swimmers at public beaches and bays
  • Perform rescues and administer first aid
  • Enforce aquatic beach regulations and ordinances
  • Clean and maintain lifeguard equipment
  • Operate rescue boats and drive emergency vehicles
  • Provide information to the public and maintain records and write reports
Requirements
  • Age: 18 years or older
  • Certificates: American Red Cross Emergency Medical Response (EMR) Certificate, American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers Certificate, or American Heart Association CPR/AED for Healthcare Providers Certificate, and Certificate of completion for the Miramar College Introduction to Open Water Lifeguarding course
  • License: Valid California Class C Driver License
Preferred Qualifications
  • Emergency Medical Technician Certification issued by the State of California
Selection Process

The selection process will consist of the following components:

  • Application Review: Ensure all information is complete and accurate
  • Performance Test: Pass a 500-meter swim in 10 minutes or less
  • Interview: Participate in an interview with the hiring department
Benefits

Eligible City employees will participate in the City's Defined Benefit Plan administered by the San Diego City Employees' Retirement System (SDCERS). Benefits may change due to employer-employee contract negotiations.
