Locksmith Specialist

The Kentucky Department of Corrections is seeking a skilled Locksmith Administrator to join our team at the Luther Luckett Correctional Complex.

The Locksmith Administrator will be responsible for the development, installation, and maintenance of the lock system within the adult institution. This includes participating in the development of methods and procedures for the installation and maintenance of the lock system, repairing various locks, and combining locks using manufacturer's recommendations.

• Develop and maintain the lock system within the adult institution.
• Participate in the development of methods and procedures for the installation and maintenance of the lock system.
• Repair a variety of locks, including cylinder locks, lever tumbler locks, and pad locks.
• Combine locks using manufacturer's recommendations.
• Install and repair door closers, panic bars, doorknobs, and related locking hardware.
• Oil and adjust doors and related locks.
• Make new keys and duplicate keys as needed.
• Set up numbering systems for the duplication of keys according to the locksmith's codebook.
• Maintain records of old and new combinations, instructional materials, and catalogs.
• Prepare and maintain required reports, work orders, and cost estimates.
• Audit and purchase necessary equipment and supplies, including blank keys and locks.
• Coordinate work of locksmith functions.

• High school graduate.
• Four years of experience in the installation and repair of locks.
• Additional experience in the installation and repair of locks will substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS.
