Job Summary

The Assets Protection Specialist role at Target is a critical position that plays a key part in maintaining a safe and secure shopping environment for our guests. As an Assets Protection Specialist, you will be responsible for identifying and preventing theft, as well as investigating and resolving incidents. This role requires strong communication and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support total store sales and increase profitability by ensuring product is in stock and available to our guests
  • Resolve theft by using good judgment and conducting high-quality apprehensions in shortage focus areas while strictly adhering to policy and procedures and AP leadership guidance
  • Identify theft trends by leveraging technology, reporting, and surveillance tactics
  • Drive a theft prevention culture by implementing action plans of AP leadership to reduce shortage by improving processes and merchandise protection standards
  • Identify, escalate, and support internal theft investigations at the direction of AP leadership
  • Prevent theft by gathering intelligence and communicating important issues
  • Understand and appropriately use video systems to monitor theft activity and support internal cases
  • Respond to security incidents and submit appropriate documentation for all incidents following AP policy and procedures
  • Lead a physical security and safety culture for our team members and guests by creating awareness and training safe and secure standards throughout the building
  • Provide service and a shopping experience that meets the needs of the guest
  • Model safe behaviors at all times while maintaining a clean store
  • Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through continuous development, modeling inclusive behaviors, and proactively managing bias
  • Work in a safe manner at all times to benefit yourself and others; identify and correct hazards; comply with all safety policies and best practices
Requirements
  • Must be at least 18 years of age or older
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Meet any state or local licensure and/or other legal requirements related to the position
  • Welcoming and helpful attitude toward guests and other team members
  • Ability to communicate on multiple frequency devices and operate handheld scanners, and other technology equipment as directed
  • Effective communication skills
  • Work both independently and with a team
  • Manage workload and prioritize tasks independently
  • Capability to remain focused and composed in a fast-paced environment and accomplish multiple tasks within established timeframes
  • Climb up and down ladders
  • Apprehend subjects in accordance with company policy
  • Scan, handle, and move merchandise efficiently and safely, including frequently lifting or moving merchandise up to 40 pounds
  • Flexible work schedule (e.g., nights, weekends, and holidays); regular and prompt attendance necessary
  • Capable of working in and exposure to varying temperatures, humidity, and other elements while performing certain job duties, including but not limited to Drive-Up, carryout, etc.
  • Ability to remain mobile for the duration of a scheduled shift (shift length may vary)
