Job Description:Senior Policy and Public Affairs Manager

This role supports our mission in Texas and beyond the Sun Belt. As the primary point of contact for state and local officials, you'll work with a diverse ecosystem of stakeholders to expand public trust and understanding of Waabi's technology, clearing the path for commercial success.

Responsibilities:

  1. Lead engagement with lawmakers, regulators, safety officials, and various stakeholders across the southern US, focusing on Texas.
  2. Track and influence relevant legislation and regulations.
  3. Build relationships with local elected officials, serving as a public voice for Waabi at conferences and other events.
  4. Collaborate with other AV developers, technology providers, and business partners.
  5. Apply knowledge of advanced technology or transportation policy to build trust in our product and ensure a responsible regulation framework for Waabi's autonomous technology.
  6. Think creatively to address significant issues facing the autonomous vehicle industry.
  7. Prioritize trust, transparency, and honesty, recognizing no project is too small or too large.
  8. Be based out of Texas, with Dallas or Austin preferred.

Qualifications:

  • 6+ years of experience in government relations, public policy, or public affairs.
  • Degree in political science, sociology, economics, or a related field.
  • Experience in transportation and/or advanced technology issues.
  • Ability to analyze complex policy problems, communicate effectively, and build high-level governmental relationships.
  • Solid track record of analyzing legislation and regulations, writing regulatory comments, speaking publicly, building coalitions, and developing policy programming.
  • Strong relationships across the Texas political landscape, including legislators, regulators, and/or local officials.
  • Passion for self-driving technologies, solving hard problems, and creating innovative policy solutions.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Deep knowledge of trucking, logistics, and/or autonomous vehicle policy.
  • Experience working on high-profile public affairs or legislative campaigns in fast-paced environments.
  • Familiarity with logistics and/or automotive stakeholders across Texas and the Sun Belt.
  • Strong understanding of automotive safety.
