Role Overview

The Behavioral Health Senior Nurse Specialist role at Avera Behavioral Health Center offers a unique opportunity to specialize in providing compassionate and patient-focused care in a multidisciplinary team environment.

This position is part of our Senior Unit, which provides a welcoming, calming, and healing environment for patients and their families. The unit's dynamic and challenging care environment requires critical thinking and values autonomous professional nursing practice.

About the Role
  • This position is a vital part of managing complex medical and psychiatric needs while fostering therapeutic relationships with older adults and their families.

A key aspect of this role is working with a diverse range of patients, including those with Dementia, Depression, Catatonia, Anxiety Disorders, Schizophrenia, and Bipolar Disorder. Our team includes Physicians, Social Workers, Case Management, Patient Care Techs, expressive therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, physical, occupational, and speech therapy.

We are seeking a skilled Registered Nurse (RN) who possesses motivation to help create and deliver high-quality patient care in an energizing team environment.

Responsibilities
  • The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the hospital and nursing home infection prevention program in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations.
  • This role also involves close collaboration with the Department Director to solve unit problems, provide adequate staff, ensure appropriate training experiences, evaluate equipment and supply purchases, and improve unit processes.
Requirements
  • Graduate of a Registered Nursing (RN) Education program.
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the state of SD or "multi-state privilege" to practice in SD if residing in a compact state outside of SD.
  • CPR, ACLS, PALS, and TNCC certification or completion upon next available program.

  • The hourly range for this position is $32.00 - $46.50 per hour, depending on experience.
