Position Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will conduct a comprehensive study in the metropolitan Atlanta area to assess:

  1. Residents' tolerance levels towards wildlife and the factors influencing these attitudes, including beliefs and socio-demographics.
  2. Perceptions of wildlife's positive and negative impacts, and the species that residents favor or disfavor.
  3. Knowledge of effective strategies to mitigate human-wildlife conflicts and willingness to adopt these strategies.
  4. Awareness of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources and trust in its capabilities.
  5. Preferred methods for receiving information about coexisting with wildlife.
Qualifications:

A minimum of a baccalaureate degree in a relevant field is required, with a preference for candidates holding an MS or PhD in human dimensions or social sciences. Experience in survey design and quantitative analysis is essential, along with proficiency in statistical software such as R or STATA.

Skills and Competencies:

Applicants should demonstrate the ability to apply social science theories in practical research contexts, with a strong foundation in survey methodologies and data analysis.

Work Environment:

The position requires regular collaboration with the research team and entails fieldwork, including travel within the metropolitan area.

This position is contingent upon funding availability and requires adherence to institutional review board protocols for research ethics.
