We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Phlebotomist to join our team at Stormont Vail Health in Topeka, Kansas. As a Phlebotomist, you will be responsible for collecting blood samples from patients in a variety of settings, including clinics and hospitals. Responsibilities
  • Collect blood samples from patients using a variety of techniques, including venipuncture and capillary puncture.
  • Process specimens according to established procedures and prepare them for transport to other laboratories as needed.
  • Access, select, release, and print test orders from the electronic medical record system, resolving unusual or duplicative orders as needed.
  • Transcribe outside orders into the electronic medical record system as required.
  • Perform and result waived point-of-care tests, maintaining quality waived test results by following department procedures.
  • Instruct patients in proper procedures for specimen collection when necessary, answering patient questions regarding collection techniques and offering additional resources if requested.
  • Follow the Phlebotomist Service Standards, using patient-centric communication, demonstrating empathetic responses to patients' concerns, acknowledging wait times and service delays, protecting patient privacy, demonstrating teamwork with all members of the healthcare team, and following the organization's and laboratory's professional behavior guidelines/policies.
  • Assist with teaching, training, and mentoring phlebotomist interns and trainees.
  • Maintain and monitor supply stock in the laboratory.
  • Respond appropriately to patient adverse reactions to venipuncture.
  • Ability and means to travel to alternate clinic locations as needed.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent; completion of an accredited phlebotomy training program may be substituted for education.
  • Experience with phlebotomy, preferably in a lab or hospital setting.
  • Venipuncture and capillary puncture experience, preferably in a lab or hospital setting.
  • Experience with electronic medical records and patient privacy, preferably in a lab or hospital setting.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail, with the ability to follow all OSHA guidelines and hospital and laboratory safety procedures.
  • Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards.
  • Ability to deal with stressful situations.
  • Drivers License - DOT Clean MVR with 3-year baseline.
  • Registered Phlebotomy Technician - AMT, preferably.
  • PBT-Phlebotomy Technician - ASCP, preferably.
