Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Diagnostic Medical Sonographer to join our team at UNC Health Care. As a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer, you will be responsible for performing diagnostic ultrasound procedures, interpreting ultrasound examinations, and maintaining image management equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform diagnostic ultrasound procedures, including assessment of patient history, documentation of anatomy and pathology, and transfer of patient data to storage/network devices.
  • Interpret ultrasound examinations, including routine OB/GYN, vascular, abdomen, and small body parts, intra-cavity, and color Doppler, and biopsies.
  • Maintain image management equipment, including deleting unnecessary image data, and utilizing the PACS system for obtaining additional study data.
  • Complete routine comments and details findings on abnormal ultrasounds in the sonographer comment section, and generate coherent, accurate, and complete computerized ultrasound data.
  • Ensure safe and appropriate procedure environment, including ultrasound equipment checks, transducer checks, QA of equipment, and cleanliness.
  • Maintain supply inventory for the department, and ensure a clean work environment.
  • Collaborate and plan the workday and patient flow with fellow sonographers and clerical support staff.
  • Review patient's chart and films for correlation, and screen exam indications to ensure level of testing.
  • Precept new employees and students, and perform diagnostic ultrasound procedures, including assessment of patient history, documentation of anatomy and pathology, and transfer of patient data to storage/network devices.
  • Attend regularly scheduled departmental ultrasound conferences and in-unit quality assurance unit updates, and engage in self-reading and education to remain abreast of new developments in ultrasound findings and technology.
Requirements
  • RDMS registered by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or registry eligible and become registered within one (1) year from date of hire.
  • Completion of a twelve (12) month program in Diagnostic Medical Sonography or General Ultrasound.
  • No prior experience required.
