Job Description:

Medical Laboratory Specialist

  • Prepare, perform and record test procedures in accordance with established criteria as assigned and optimizes patient safety with minimal medical/health care errors in any or all the sections of the Clinical Laboratory.
  • Performs specimen collection procedures as needed, i.e. phlebotomy collections
  • Promotes good public relations and professional attitude for laboratory department and facility
  • Assists in departmental training of new employees and students
  • Ensures operation of analyzers and other laboratory equipment by calibrating; performing preventative maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and techniques
  • All employees will continually monitor and adhere to safety responsibilities and initiatives.
  • Adheres to specific hospital policy and procedures.

Requirements:

  • Graduate of an accredited program of Medical Technology or related science; successful completion of School for Medical Technology/ Clinical Laboratory Science.
  • Four years of college with courses pertaining to biology, chemistry
  • Previous experience in a clinical laboratory is desirable.
