Job Summary:

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist the anesthesia provider in preparing patients for anesthesia, including setting up equipment and monitoring vital signs.
  • Operate and maintain anesthesia equipment, including ventilators, monitors, and infusion pumps.
  • Prepare and apply patient warming modalities as needed.
  • Assist with invasive monitoring, including arterial lines, central venous pressure lines, and PA catheters.
  • Coordinate patient monitoring equipment availability with PACU and Critical Care units.
  • Work with the perioperative team to facilitate a prompt room turnover.
  • Assemble and prepare anesthesia equipment and supplies for general, regional, and local anesthesia.
  • Assist with patient preparation, electrode placement, and use of ultrasound/nerve stimulator devices.
  • Perform mechanical tasks, such as pressing syringe plungers, as directed by the anesthesia provider.
  • Ensure sterile technique and prepare anesthesia trays for procedures.
  • Remove and dispose of supplies and equipment following procedures.
  • Operate cell salvaging, intra-aortic balloon pumping, and TEE devices as required.
  • Perform cleaning, sterilization, and decontamination of anesthesia-related items.
  • Coordinate with Pharmacy for out-of-stock drugs.
  • Utilize working knowledge and operation of all equipment and monitors.
  • Perform routine checkout and upkeep of anesthesia equipment, inspecting for damages and sending for repair or troubleshooting as needed.
  • Coordinate with Biomedical Engineering for maintenance and repair of anesthesia equipment.
  • Work with engineering to maintain records and documentation of equipment maintenance and repairs.
  • Maintain inventory of disposable and non-disposable equipment, including supplies and initiating replacement using established contract vendors.
  • Assure a clean, orderly, and functional work environment.
  • Participate in relevant local, regional, and national committees.
  • Maintain working relationships with approved vendors.
  • Organize work to minimize the use of overtime.
  • Identify and assist in systems improvements for simplification or correction.
  • Utilize payroll and non-payroll resources to their maximum potential, assisting the manager in capital budget preparation.
  • Consistently demonstrate a professional, supportive attitude.
  • Initiate and support new ideas and actively assist others.
  • Confront difficult or conflict situations constructively and seek appropriate assistance.
  • Actively participate in departmental professional development and mentor anesthesia students.
  • Participate in the assessment of current and future learning needs and development of an annual educational plan.

  • Adhere to applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations, accreditation and licenser requirements, and Kaiser Permanente's policies and procedures.
Basic Qualifications:
  • Graduate of an Accredited program in Anesthesia Technology with an AS degree OR certified by the American Society of Technologists and Technicians (ASATT), as a Technologist
  • High School Diploma
  • I.V. Certification
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support
  • Anesthesia Technician Certificate from American Society of Anesthesia Technologists and Technicians
  • Basic Life Support
Additional Requirements:
  • Demonstrated ability to perform the duties and responsibilities required of a Certified Anesthesia Technologist.
  • Must be able to lift 45 lbs of equipment from an overhead position on a daily basis.
  • Must be able to push/pull up to 500 lbs.
  • Keyboarding skills Upon training, must be able to use appropriate computer software applications, including the Health Connect system.
  • Must be able to stand or walk continuously.
  • Able to demonstrate knowledge and skill in the use of anesthesia equipment, including proper quality assurance, storage, and troubleshooting.
  • Working knowledge of Anesthesia department procedures, principles of asepsis, and sterile technique.
  • Able to demonstrate manual dexterity and mechanical ability.
  • Must be able to exercise judgment and work efficiently and competently with minimal supervision.
  • Utilizes effective communication strategies, which result in intended outcomes.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Certificate of training for Drager, GE, or other anesthesia delivery systems, if not a graduate of a program.
  • Minimum one (1) year of experience in a Cardiac OR and/or Level 1 trauma center.
  • Associate Degree
Notes:

Tertiary medical center requires on call.
