Patient Access Specialist Emergency Department

At Northwestern Memorial Healthcare, we are committed to delivering exceptional patient care and service. As a Patient Access Specialist in our Emergency Department, you will play a critical role in ensuring that our patients receive timely and efficient access to medical care.
Responsibilities:- Provide exceptional customer service to patients and their families, responding to their questions and concerns in a timely and professional manner.
- Collect and verify patient demographic information, including insurance and financial data, to ensure accurate and efficient registration.
- Utilize computer applications and online systems to verify insurance eligibility, check patient balances, and complete accurate handoff instructions.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare teams to ensure seamless transitions and optimal patient outcomes.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient satisfaction, reduce wait times, and improve operational efficiency.
- Collaborate with other departments and teams to ensure effective communication and coordination of patient care.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education preferred.
- 2-3 years of customer service or medical office experience, with a focus on patient access and registration.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in computer data-entry/typing and ability to type 40 wpm.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize tasks, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Additional language skills, particularly in Spanish or other languages spoken by our patient population.
- Healthcare finance and/or insurance experience, with knowledge of billing and coding practices.
- Knowledge and experience in a healthcare setting, particularly in patient scheduling and registration.
