As a Road Driver with FedEx Freight, you will be responsible for safely operating a tractor-trailer combination to transport goods between Service Centers and/or turn-point locations. This role requires a high level of attention to detail, strong communication skills, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate tractor-trailer combination, including doubles and triples, to transport goods between Service Centers and/or turn-point locations.
  • Perform daily pre-trip and safety inspections on equipment to ensure compliance with regulations and company policies.
  • Hook and unhook trailers and converter dollies to/from a tractor and/or trailer, and verify and complete required documentation and reports.
  • Maintain accurate daily logs and comply with hazardous material regulations and procedures.
  • Follow dispatch instructions and communicate with dispatch as required, and perform other duties as necessary.
Requirements
  • Must possess 1 year of experience within the most recent 3 years, or successful completion of the FedEx Freight Driver Development Course.
  • Must have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) based on hiring standards.
  • Must meet all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulatory requirements under section 391 of the Federal Motor Carrier (FMC) regulations.
  • Long combination vehicles (LCV) are operated in certain states, and drivers in these states must meet the LCV Qualification and Certification Minimum Standards.
  • Basic written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to hook-up and break-down sets of trailers that require an average lift force of about 100 pounds.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time, bend, twist, squat, and climb in and out of the truck.
  • Ability to follow instructions and complete required training, and work independently and/or as a team member.
  • Demonstrates initiative and motivation.
Working Conditions

As a Road Driver with FedEx Freight, you will be exposed to various working conditions, including:

  • Driving long distances day and night on all types of roads and in all types of weather.
  • Exposure to noise and vibration, dust and diesel fumes, and hazardous materials shipped and packaged under DOT regulations.
  • Hours may vary due to operational need, and overnight stays may be required for some schedules.
Preferred Qualifications

While not required, the following qualifications are preferred:

  • Previous experience as a truck driver or in a related field.
  • Knowledge of hazardous materials regulations and procedures.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing situations.
