Position Overview:
Job Summary


Working closely with the Assistant Store Manager, you will assist the Store Manager in planning, coordinating, and overseeing store operations to effectively manage costs, achieve labor targets, maintain profit margins, and ensure a pleasant shopping experience for customers while fostering a safe and professional work environment for employees.

You will be responsible for monitoring stock levels and ensuring that customer purchasing needs are consistently met.

Key Responsibilities:


1. Oversee the Grocery department, ensuring adherence to company policies, state and federal regulations, and the store's collective bargaining agreement.

2. Regularly assess store appearance and conditions to uphold high standards of cleanliness, efficiency, and productivity. Demonstrate an understanding of store priorities and the ability to anticipate changes.

3. Maintain a safe environment for both customers and employees, thereby managing general liability and workers' compensation costs.

4. Exhibit enthusiasm and a positive demeanor towards colleagues and customers alike.

5. Set a standard of personal integrity, appearance, and ethical business practices for all store personnel.

6. Lead by example.

7. Monitor employee performance and productivity, ensuring effective labor utilization within the grocery department.

8. Evaluate and implement merchandising strategies for the store.

9. Perform necessary personnel functions, including hiring, training, and disciplinary actions.

10. Assume Store Manager responsibilities in their absence or as assigned.

11. Assist the Store Manager in achieving or surpassing labor and productivity goals.

12. Ensure the quality and condition of all products, ensuring that items are stocked, rotated, and faced, with outdated and spoiled products properly discarded.

13. Carry out additional duties as required.

Qualifications:

Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent

Experience:


Minimum of one (1) year in a managerial role or three (3) years as an Assistant Manager, or equivalent management experience in a retail grocery environment.


Proficient in clear written and verbal communication, providing leadership, demonstrating interpersonal skills, and maintaining composure with customers and co-workers.

Experience in supervisory tasks such as interviewing, scheduling, hiring, counseling, training, and disciplinary actions.

Familiarity with Windows applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook, in a professional setting.


Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail to effectively monitor progress and complete assignments efficiently and accurately.

Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, establishing and maintaining rapport with co-workers, supervisors, and suppliers.

Ability to conduct visual inspections and interpret reports and computer data.

Capability to accept direction from multiple sources and manage time effectively to meet deadlines.


Demonstrated initiative and self-direction to perform various simultaneous tasks, prioritizing effectively with minimal supervision.


Strong understanding of company practices, policies, and procedures, with the ability to respond professionally and appropriately to customer and employee needs.


Physical Requirements:
Occasionally lift and maneuver objects weighing up to 50 pounds.

Efficiently operate check stand equipment such as scales, scanners, and cash registers.

Utilize computer programs for tasks such as employee scheduling and product ordering.

Stand, walk, and move rapidly for extended periods.

Bend, stoop, twist, and turn frequently.

Perform basic mathematical calculations and compute weights and measures.

Fulfill primary duties efficiently and accurately.

Work any scheduled shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.

Obtain necessary certifications for operating required equipment, including powered industrial forklifts and electric pallet jacks.

Occasionally lift up to 50 lbs., bend at the waist, and twist the upper body frequently, with repetitive use of hands.

Additional Requirements:
Food Handlers Certification (as per state laws)

Machines and Equipment Operated:
Office machines (computer terminal, copier/scanner, 10-key, fax machine, telephone, etc.)

Forklift, electric and manual pallet jack, push carts, and hand trucks.

Garbage and cardboard compactors.

Preferred Qualifications:
Five (5) years or more as a Store Manager/Director or Assistant Manager in a retail grocery setting.

Management experience in a fast-paced, high-volume retail grocery environment.
