Job Summary

The Economic and Industry Analyst will analyze and make recommendations for the progress of the sustainable fashion industry, from farms and new materials to processing to brands and design, in New York State and globally. The Analyst will review and stay up-to-date on relevant studies and research, and will seek information from industry data sources, conduct interviews and surveys, and analyze and interpret the information. The work is based at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute as part of the Fashion Innovation Center (FIC). The Analyst will interact with FIC members and participants to learn about the industry, discuss sustainable fashion industry problems and potential solutions, consider ways to advance the industry in New York State, and document relevant information and findings in reports, papers, and/or books. The Analyst will also provide suggestions where relevant to innovative project participants in the FIC's accelerator. The Analyst will work closely with the Center Director and other FIC members.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and make recommendations for the progress of the sustainable fashion industry
  • Review and stay up-to-date on relevant studies and research
  • Seek information from industry data sources, conduct interviews and surveys, and analyze and interpret the information
  • Interact with FIC members and participants to learn about the industry and discuss sustainable fashion industry problems and potential solutions
  • Document relevant information and findings in reports, papers, and/or books
  • Provide suggestions where relevant to innovative project participants in the FIC's accelerator

Requirements

  • Doctorate (ex: Ph.D./J.D./Ed.D. or other) in Economics, Management, or a related field
  • Experience in economics and/or management including research study design and interpretation, econometric and statistical analysis, and data collection
  • Relevant combinations of education, training, and experience may be considered

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge and experience specific to fashion, textile manufacture and processing, new materials, and/or fiber agriculture desirable

Working Conditions

  • Business Hours: Monday - Friday
  • Occasional overnight travel may be required (10% or less)

Compensation

  • Expected hiring range: $70,000 - $80,000
  • The selected candidate's salary will be determined based on factors that include the available budget, internal equity, and the final candidate's qualifications, experience, education, and other job-related credentials.
