Overview:

The primary responsibility of a power systems engineer is to conceptualize, create, assess, or oversee the production and installation of electrical apparatus, components, or systems for various applications including commercial, industrial, military, or scientific sectors. A typical power systems engineer possesses the capability to produce engineering schematics and interpret technical drawings.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conceive, create, and evaluate the production of electrical apparatus, such as control systems, wiring configurations, and illumination systems.
  • Assess the economic viability, dependability, and safety of specific design prototypes.
  • Project timeframes and budget estimates for project completion.
  • Model and evaluate the operation of machines, structures, or systems.
  • Research and analyze products from suppliers and competitors.

Contribution to Team:

This role will focus on developing systems to evaluate new product introduction (NPI) components or assess returned electronic control modules (ECMs), displays, and sensors. The engineer will coordinate verification and validation processes for modifications to existing and current production electrical systems. Responsibilities include documenting test outcomes and relaying information to relevant teams or suppliers, as well as organizing the scheduling of testing activities with both internal and external resources.

Qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree in engineering is essential, with a preference for computer or electronics engineering.
  • Relevant projects or internships at the BS or MS level will be considered if duration details are provided.
  • An associate's degree may be acceptable with an additional two years of experience (totaling seven years).
  • PhD candidates will be regarded as overqualified and will not be considered.
  • A minimum of 5-7 years of relevant experience is required.

Technical Proficiencies:

  • Familiarity with laboratory instruments such as spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, function generators, and operational amplifiers.
  • Experience with Design Verification Plan & Report (DVP&R) methodologies.
  • Knowledge of Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA) processes.
  • Proficient documentation and presentation skills using MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) are preferred.
  • Understanding of connectivity and telematics technologies.
  • Experience with operating systems including MS Windows and UNIX variants.
