Marine Operations Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Marine Operations Specialist to join our team at Centerline Logistics Corporation. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced professional to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, utilizing their expertise to maintain the vessel's engine room and equipment, perform routine monitoring, and execute tasks as assigned by the captain and/or mate.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the engine room is in a state of readiness to perform work for customers as needed, including start-up and shutdown procedures and routine monitoring of vessel power and propulsion systems.
  • Perform heavy line and hose pulling, work on oil and cargo barges, general vessel maintenance, and other tasks assigned by the captain and/or mate.
  • Record operating conditions of engine room equipment, maintain proper liquid levels, and perform lubrication services.
  • Maintain a daily log with proper readings and times, and keep the engine room clean and ready for operation at all times.
  • Wash down the engine room weekly and at every crew change, and fuel the tug as needed.

Deck Work Responsibilities:

  • Make up all tows as directed by the captain or mate, and use the radio to communicate with other crew members and vessels.
  • Tie off barge tows properly, give direction and distance signals, and provide information to other crew members.
  • Paint the tug and barges on an ongoing basis, load supplies, and perform general cleanup tasks.
  • Assist with cooking and galley duties as needed, and fill out material requisitions and work order forms.

Required Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working on marine diesels is essential, and the ability to comprehend and respond to specific orders from the captain or mate is crucial.
  • Effective communication skills are necessary to work with the captain, mate, co-workers, dispatchers, and customers in English.
  • The ability to learn and apply safety awareness, injury prevention, and firefighting skills is required.
  • Ability to operate all firefighting and lifesaving equipment aboard, and read, speak, and understand English over the telephone and/or radio.

Job Conditions and Environment:

  • Work in all weather conditions, including rain, ice, snow, heat, wind, and heavy seas.
  • Must be physically fit to pull heavy lines/hoses, lift, carry heavy items, climb onto barges and up and down ladders, and bend and twist during boat/barge tie-up.
  • Ability to work in confined quarters for prolonged periods and get along with crew members.

Estimated Salary: $60,000 - $80,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
