Key Responsibilities
  • Perform non-diagnostic otoscopy and make referrals for abnormalities and cerumen management.
  • Assist audiologists in modifying treatment plans during hearing aid repair appointments.
  • Provide patient care in hearing aid repair appointments, consistent with the audiologist's treatment plan.
  • Process incoming devices from patients with concerns related to their hearing aids or hearing assistive technology.
  • Prepare and charge hearing aids and assistive devices for delivery, and receive devices and restore settings after repair or replacement.
  • Adhere to audiology clinic policy and standard operating procedures for infection control and cleaning, sterilization, and disposition of reusable medical equipment.
  • Complete documentation per medical center policy for timeliness for each episode of care and code procedures as appropriate in the patient record.
  • Provide instruction to patients, family, and staff on device topics, including hearing aid and hearing assistive technology care, maintenance, use, and operation.
  • Receive and complete incoming communications from veterans, and facilitate follow-up based on the audiologist's treatment plan.
Requirements
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
  • Must have a full, current, and unrestricted license or registration to practice as a Health Technician in a state, territory, commonwealth, or the District of Columbia.
  • Must hold active board certification from the National Board for Certification in Hearing Instrument Sciences (NBC-HIS).
  • Must have completion of the Department of Labor Apprenticeship Program for Hearing Aid Specialists, or successful completion of two academic years above high school that includes coursework related to the field.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 2-5 years of experience working as a hearing instrument specialist (HIS) with an active HIS license.

This is a part-time position with a work schedule of Monday-Friday, 8am-Noon. Telework and virtual work options are not available for this position.
